So often, we find ourselves in a career deadlock. We wonder why and what we could have done differently to change our circumstances.

At age 37, I think I have learned a quite deal about why, but not usually the easy way. Most lessons are often learned after I made mistakes.

Let me share my top career life lessons so maybe you don't need to learn the hard way and progress forward fast than I did:

1. Your direct manager is your central influence on the perception of the company

Your direct supervisor’s attitude about the company and your general relationship with them will dictate how you see the company overall.

Culture is important, but management is like the main delivery system of that culture. You could be in a great company culture, but if your manager is toxic or not qualified, it won't mean much. I have had 4 managers in my current position and saw how different my perception of the company changed with each one. If someone is positive, you often become that way. If they always complain or say bad things about the company, you tend to start thinking like that.
