I have suffered a lot to realize the information I am about to share. If you can't seem to get respect, friends, success…you should read this.

1. Too much, too soon

When you first meet people, the first impression sets the bar for what standard you will be measured on going forward. When you are way too generous in the beginning, whether it be financially, emotionally, or information-wise, it usually only leads to a series of different unwanted conclusions.

  1. The other person thinks you’re showing off
  2. The other person thinks you are desperate
  3. The other person thinks you are full of shit
  4. The other person thinks you are a great person to use for a while to fill some of their needs and at a cheap price.

Fundamentally, what you give in the beginning will naturally be expected to stay at that level. When the generosity or projected value starts off way too high, the person knows you won't be able to sustain it or they cannot relate and you will just let them down. Better to be more careful, even stingy. The more conservative you are, the more your offering is worth, so create scarcity.
