Diana, I can see why you'd react this way. I do tend to write like I'm swinging a sledgehammer sometimes. Let me attempt to level-set.

1. Not all people who get promoted are idiots.

2. Not all idiots get promoted.

3. Those who are not qualified are not necessarily idiots.

4. Social intelligence is not equal to idiocy.

5. There are some who get promoted, not being seen as the most qualified or tradionally intelligent by peers, and one possible scenario is that they get promoted because perhaps their ineptness, not causing "problems", and socialability fit with the culture of the organization who reward this over perhaps the "smartest" person in terms of skill, experience, and education.

5. Idiocy is not necessarily mutually exclusive with skills, education, and experience.

A lot of my perspective was partially influenced shortly after reading the book "Bullshit Jobs" and how much it resonated with what I've seen out there.
