I have found American culture and language to be tricky. You may be trying to be nice, but actually come off like an asshole. You might think you’re an asshole, but people are finding it endearing. I’m starting to figure it out though. Here are 5 phrases to eliminate from your vocab. I will show you how they are huge killers to your likability around others.

1. No Problem

If you do something for a person and they thank you, it can feel natural to reply, “No problem.” Change this to something more personal, like “I’m happy to help.”

The reason is “no problem” implies that you helped because it was not a huge problem, not because you wanted to help them. Naturally, people wonder if the circumstances were more difficult, you would've been less eager to help since you’re not exactly I dictating you’re helping because it's for their benefit.
