Few People Know The Origins Of These Famous 5 Words
If you want to start understanding the Italian language, especially many of its roots and famous expressions, you just need to boil it down to the 2 biggest hallmarks of ancient civilization: Organized religion and prostitution. If you think about it, they go hand-in-hand, you do the animal-based activities at night and then you have a system to ask forgiveness the next day.
Anyways, I am not here to harangue you with my ideological theories, I want to show you the origins of the 5 words, not just famous in Italy, but also In English. These words have become everyday expressions, but sadly few people know their amazing back-stories.
Cappuccino
To understand the famous caffeinated drink, you just need to go back to Latin, where the prefix “cap” meant covering. More specifically, it came to be known as a covering for one's head and body, especially worn by clergy. These three letters are associated not just with covering, but the head in general, both virtually and figuratively.
