I Lost My Mom to Fox News Again

This will be the first Thanksgiving and Christmas I will spend without my family. Maybe you can relate. The members of my family are Fox News-obsessed Trump fans. My mother especially has specifically indicated that she has no interest in getting together for the holidays because she is upset about what’s going in the world politically. If you read, “I Lost My Mom Fox News”, you’re probably not as surprised as I am.

With the importance that Republicans put on family values, freedom, and Christmas, I do find it a bit ironic. But I am not laughing. The holidays were very important to me. When I was young, it was huge parties with all of us together, including cousins, uncles, our closest friends. A creepy uncle would say something inappropriate but everyone would laugh, the parents would drink, the kids were so excited to open presents, everyone ate tons of food and you could just feel like we were all part of something promising: a family.

The last string of years has been exceptionally tough. I have really had to work hard to get my five family members together, while no one was exactly reluctant at first, no one but me was willing to communicate any motivations for our holiday plans.
