If you are one of my longtime readers, you know I am pretty critical of Stoicism. I actually enjoy reading the Stoics from time to time, but the way it’s being employed today in our culture is a clever new form of propaganda. The first part, “You cannot control your conditions” is where the problem occurs.
Convincing people that the conditions in which they live are set, established, and concrete is the ultimate goal the rich and powerful want the weak to believe. It makes you give up and stop questioning, and focus on accepting, just like the ancient and colonial masters would whip slaves into submission. It’s no different now, except that they can do it more silently now to more people using the Internet.
